1. Our commitment
BRION RAFFOUL recognizes that the climate and biodiversity crises, and the social inequities that accompany them, require every organization to act within its sphere of influence. As an intellectual property firm whose work supports innovation in clean technology, renewable energy and other fields central to the socio-ecological transition, we are committed to aligning our own operations with the transition we help our clients advance.
2. Governance and accountability
Accountability for this strategy rests with BRION RAFFOUL’s management team. The strategy and its targets are reviewed and updated as our understanding and capacity grow.
3. Our location and how we work
Our office is situated within a major public transit area, with frequent transit service and a range of housing options nearby. This location is a deliberate part of how we operate. It allows many of our Professional and Administrative team members to live close to the office and to commute by transit, cycling, and walking, reducing both commuting emissions and the time our people spend travelling. Our office’s Walk Score of 97/100, Bike Score of 99/100 and Transit Score of 72/100, further demonstrate its accessibility.
Our central, transit-served location also makes it straightforward for clients, inventors and colleagues to reach us when an in-person meeting is the right choice.
4. Climate objectives
We will measure, reduce and account for our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by:
- Adopting a virtual-first policy for routine associate, client and inventor meetings.
- Maintaining a transit-accessible office location and supporting low-carbon commuting by our team, including transit, cycling and walking.
5. Environmental objectives: resource use, waste and biodiversity
- Reduce office paper consumption by maintaining an electronic-first approach to filing, document management and client reporting.
- Continue to divert office waste from landfills through expanded recycling and organics/composting programs.
- Adopt a sustainable procurement policy for office supplies and IT and route all retired electronics to certified e-waste recycling or refurbishment/donation.
6. Social objectives: equity, inclusion, human rights and community
- Maintain equity, diversity and inclusion in our professional team.
- As a small business with approximately 25 team members, we are committed to making our website and other client-facing digital platforms accessible for everyone.
- Support employee wellbeing and development.
