Yesterday, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued US Patent No. 11,000,000. It took slightly under three (3) years, or 1057 days to be exact, for the most recent one million patents to be granted by the USPTO, with No. 10,000,000 having been issued on June 19, 2018.
In contrast, the USPTO took 75 years to go from No. 1 in 1836 to No. 1,000,000 in 1911 (though “X-patents” were issued as far back as 1790). More recently, the USPTO took eight (8) years to go from No. 5,000,000 in 1991 to No. 6,000,000 in 1999.
